How to share a calendar on iPhone

On iPhone, sharing happens through iCloud calendars. Only iCloud calendars can be shared — a calendar synced from a work account or Google won't offer the option.

Step by step

Skip anything that already looks done.

  1. Step 1

    Open the Calendar app and tap 'Calendars'

    It's the button at the bottom centre of the screen.

  2. Step 2

    Tap the info button next to an iCloud calendar

    The small circled 'i' to the right of the calendar name. If there's no 'i', that calendar isn't on iCloud.

  3. Step 3

    Tap 'Add Person'

    Type a name, phone number or email for each family member, then tap 'Add'.

  4. Step 4

    Set what they can do

    Tap the person's name after they accept, then turn 'Allow Editing' on or off. Off is a good default for kids.

  5. Step 5

    Optional: a public read-only link

    In the same screen, turn on 'Public Calendar' to get a link anyone can subscribe to — useful for grandparents on Android.

Worth knowing

Small things that save a second attempt.

  • Create a new calendar first (Calendars → Add Calendar) so you share the family one, not your personal one.
  • Shared iCloud calendars update in near real time on every signed-in Apple device.
  • Family Sharing on iPhone also creates an automatic shared 'Family' calendar for everyone in the group.

Common questions

Can I share an iPhone calendar with an Android user?
Not with editing access. Use the 'Public Calendar' link so they can subscribe read-only, or move the family calendar to Google.
Why is 'Add Person' missing?
The calendar isn't stored in iCloud. Make a new iCloud calendar and move the events across.
Do shared calendars use my storage?
No — calendars are tiny and don't count meaningfully against iCloud storage.
